By this point, Andrew Mouge has formed the backbone of Vivarium Recordings, with his new project Mr. Roboto contributing the ninth album we've hosted from him. While almost all of his work has been tinged by the distorted haze of VHS pop, his work under his main name has tackled a variety of genres from future beat tapes to expansive drone. While Illeapolis Radio is familiar in textural quality to other releases, this may be our first official proper hip hop release.

While the instrumentals very much maintain a vaporwave quality they act as more of a base for the rap acapellas he's reappropriated to work in a different context than the original. Many of the vocals are confrontational and border on gangsta rap, but somehow that aggression works on top of these shimmering beats.

Illeapolis Radio, Vol. 1 was written and produced by Mr. Roboto.
Recorded and mastered in the bowels of the internet during the spring and summer of 2020.

This album makes you feel like you're inside an old computer that is on it's last legs. Everything is glitchy, aggressive, and decaying around you. There are only a few moments where it feels something is still functioning and intact, only to be followed by more sounds of disrepair. Truly a special experience. icu8some2
