When RAN discovered the early synthesizer recordings of OPN, Emeralds and the gonzo tape experiments of James Ferraro, it was game over. West Virginia based electronic artist Chase Monty immediately fell in love with this sound. "It was all I wanted to do. I just wanted to make records like that". He has made good on his artistic influences with Gates and Zones. Assembled with myriad analog tools including the Yamaha SY77, Korg Minilogue, Tascam 414 MK II, Roland SP-555, sewn together on Garageband with additional instrumentation from the Arturia Analog Lab, Gates and Zones occupies the noisy, hypnotic side of the electronic frontier.

The album is, in compliment to its title, a transportive experience. Lush cascades of arpeggiation stack into euphoric, overwhelming roars. The occasional implementation of more conventional song structures offset a strong emphasis on improvised manipulation across its trance-inducing loops. With Gates and Zones, RAN establishes himself as a most zealous disciple creating in the ethereal altar of Daniel Lopatin.
