Scott my first radio was a mono AM model; this was mid/late 70s: everything from Pink Floyd to Earth, Wind and Fire; from Johnny Cash to Vangelis...definitely something about which to feel nostalgic. (I wouldn't touch AM radio with a 100-foot pole nowadays!) Favorite track: 2000 Rainfall.

As a longtime fan of vaporwave, it seems only natural Jens Jejkal (AKA Oreiko) would return to the style after 2022's 'If We Survive Tonight'. With an extensive history in plunderphonics, sound collage, and brone, Oreiko turns their sample-flipping talents to the vaporous mode once again. Under the oversight of Janis Lago, he has produced one of his finest releases, an album bound to please fans of his prior work and vapor casuals alike.

Oreiko avoids repeating the same sound from track to track, exploring vaporwares many wonderful subsidiary modes like mallsoft, dreampunk, broken transmission and more, along with what could be dubbed 'traditional' vaporwave. 'Nostalgia AM / Fauxstalgia FM' offers a fine spectrum of vapor through its concept. Some tracks were born from sources of direct nostalgia and cultural value to Jens, yet some see him taking on the challenge of replicating the aesthetic through less conventional sources, like 80s prog electronic and punk - hence the 'Fauxstalgia' component.

Oreiko pays tribute to the work in the scene that has so inspired him, notably, father2006, Vektroid, Hantasi and even OPN with the goal of reflecting his own idea of what vaporwave is through a sound not unlike those of his musical idols. "When you get your ass up and go through the rough patches of early music making, you can actually achieve something . . . this release is possibly the best representation of vaporwave that interests me and also touches on some of the techniques and sonic ideas from the genre".
