Gareth Sloan's fourteenth album as Halogen Star distinguishes itself within his recent canon of releases as a tour of the varied styles to the UK based artist's discography. Notion of a Somebody offers the cathartic, lengthy ambient techno Sloan is best known for, yet it also indulges in the psychedelic stylings of acid techno; the tranquility of Gareth's ambient work and the brooding drama of his synthwave are given representation on this, his most diverse album yet.

Every track here is a highlight in the color palette of Halogen Star. Notion of a Somebody holds great personal meaning to Sloan. The album was forged as a series of wordless diary entries, giving form to self-induced stresses and months of internal anguish. Sloan pours these tumultuous feelings into an arc for us to share in the experience.

Building to a sinister title track and searching for therapeutic release in the bounding movements that follow, Sloan seeks to touch on every phase of processing such grief. Featuring work from Ohsaurus, Notion of a Somebody shows us not just the many sides of Halogen Star's artistry, but the complex, weighted emotions of his own internal struggles.
