A prodigious new face in IDM emerges on Vivarium with a slick, futuristic album to tantalize the ears! No novice to the medium, having dabbled in dark ambient, glitch and regular offerings to the church of Aphex Twin on albums prior, with 'deafness' we see Phoenix-based producer spencer hodo zero-in on the highly percussive and articulate techno of his influences.

A lean and mean record, all killer, no filibuster, 'deafness' offers such sonic delection as to invite the listener incur its titular condition from repeat listens alone, yet his firm command of the mix results in electronic so unblemished, so smooth and digestible, we reckon it a daunting challenge. Constantly varying its approach, veering into drill and bass, ambient techno and even the gnarlier end of glitch, 'deafness' establishes hodo as a talent to keep tabs on. We leave you with this quote, a reminder of the humble origins of the form, lest we forget:

"Remember? I existed for the entirety of the lifespan of the CD. My first CD player was the size of a PS5. I remember when blanks were $8 a piece, and you coastered every third one. I tell yah... *gets her cane* you goddamn kids don't appreciate shit. Why we had to burn at SINGLE SPEED dammit. A whole hour! For one disc that might not work! And don't get me started with the internet AIDS you had to contract to get music back then..."
