Mt. Vex - Photoperiodism

Mt. Vex returns to Vivarium following last year's excellent 'Face Down in the Pool of Love' with an enthralling stream of quasi-live IDM. 'Photoperiodism' bounds through eight ethereal stages of foggy electronic propelled by skittering live drums bedecked with gorgeous softsynths that were and topped with a surreal varnish of sampling and sound effects.

'Photoperiodism' came to be in a two week burst of recording over the last two weeks of July - save for the first two tracks (the opener being conceived on March 2nd). The album's frenzy of detail compliments this ethos of immediacy, clamoring to capture something ephemeral - that which can only be called forth from inside a particular moment. Mt. Vex preserves these sequences in a heavily processed electronic haze, blurring the boundary between the spontaneity of human performance and the precise accent of computer mediated creation.

The last track is an ode to his girlfriend and the day on which they met, sampling one of her favorite songs, “La La Means I Love You” by The Delfonics.
