Here at Vivarium Recordings, we've had the pleasure of hosting some very offkilter art, but Hootie the Sailor may have just taken that concept and rammed it into his dying VCR just to prove how little we truly know. As one of our oldest friends, it was somewhat surprising to see him submit to us, especially in the style he molds this album in. As a movie buff and lover of classic rock, those qualities may not exactly come across on this debut. Zwerk is instead a plunderphonics odyssey through the heart of salvaged and forgotten media.

A conceptual effort through and through, Zwerk chronicles the dying breaths of a VCR player, neglected and in disrepair. Just when it gets its chance to impress after years of isolation, it finally craps out in spectacular fashion. However, that hardly scrapes the frightening and downright paranoid cacophony of sounds at play here. YouTube videos from friends, made for TV specials, the occasional animated musical. And enough static to fry your brain.

Zwerk was written and produced by Hootie the Sailor.
Recorded and mastered in the basement suite during the summer and fall of 2019.

This album makes you feel like you're inside an old computer that is on it's last legs. Everything is glitchy, aggressive, and decaying around you.
