One of our best friends and most cherished producers working with Vivarium Recordings is Gareth Sloan, the man behind the ambient techno project Halogen Star. Through four albums over the course of 2019, it was every bit as breathtaking as it was impressive to watch him preserve his baseline sound while expanding into new territory. However, in keeping with the main sounds of Halogen Star, this could be seen as limiting. Presenting this album under a new moniker to experiment with these expansions, Gareth returns as Magenta Room.

Magenta Room acts more as a parallel to Halogen Star, never breaking the ethos in which he forges his work. Twilight Magnum acts as more of a self portrait than any of his other albums have, although Gareth now has the knowlege of several predecessors to reinforce its core. There is no one true narrative to be found here and that's what makes its journey so unique. From sweeping ambient suites to cosmic vaporwave and offkilter IDM, there's something of a lightning in a bottle effect at play. Each track has something uniquely different to offer, yet they reinforce the effects of each subsequent track. We often like to ascribe the term ethereal to Gareth's work. Twilight Magnum is downright heavenly in a way that we cannot properly describe and its enigma is impossible to overlook. Amen.
