Druida - Limnociclo
For their follow-up to 2021's 'Esculturas de Ossos', Brazilian plunderphonics artist Druida propels his sound further into the realm of IDM and techno, further expanding the prolific sample palette that makes his music so refreshingly inventive. 'Limnociclo' places emphasis on haunting piano and features an assortment of affected strings in compliment. Stark punctuations of violin pierce through Pompeu's dreamlike ambient backdrops; summery guitar and chipper bell percussion conjure pastoral scenes - only to be transmuted to synthetic realms through vaporous glitches and driving electronic grooves.
'Limnociclo' highlights Druida's - for lack of a better word - 'electronic' leanings more prominently than ever. Pompeu's excited use of percussion and ethereal synths now accent the plunderphonic, hIs trademark sampling of folk instrumentation turning otherworldly in the unique context he creates. These are spirited compositions, not so much seduced by the inviting haze of past projects as they are abuzz with reanimation, eager to be mangled by a machine process, prospecting the new forms they take on in the rhythmic interplay between sample and synthesis.
